OUR FOUNDERS

The Village was founded in 2017, by nine African-American women who believed that they had the power to help transform our community by investing our collective resources in organizations and initiatives that positively impact the African-American community. The goal was simple: encourage philanthropy among African-American women and combine financial contributions to help local organizations address unmet needs. Amazing things happen when vision meets determination.

A. SHONN BROWN

CO-CHAIR AND FOUNDING OFFICER

I'm overjoyed to be able to highlight the generosity of African-American women. I want us to be viewed as leaders across this country and across the globe--in the space of inclusive giving and making a lasting impact.. I want The Village to be the reference point for "this is how you make things happen"

Lisa Montgomery

CO-CHAIR AND FOUNDING OFFICER

I'm so honored to be leading this effort and doing it alongside so many women I admire and respect. The Village is focused on sowing seeds of grace, generosity, and commitment to our community. Each of us...the members of VGC, are blessed beyond measure to be part of this movement. There is much work to be done and the best investment we can make is to support those organizations that are closest to the problems facing our community and best able to help solve them.

CHERYL ALSTON

FOUNDING OFFICER

What's special about The Village is that we can all play a role and make a difference in our own communities and communities around the country. The Village is a model that can and should be duplicated --statewide and nationally. My hope for The Village is that we are able to touch more lives and inspire the next generation of Black women philanthropists.

ANNIKA CAIL

FOUNDING OFFICER

Walking and living in your purpose is the greatest joy one can experience. The Village Giving Circle is one of my greatest joys and working with a group of brilliant and beautiful sisters constantly reassures me that I'm not alone. Onward & upward!

VERA INGRAM

FOUNDING OFFICER

We have an amazing Village and there's nothing we can't accomplish when Black women work with each other and for each other. It's important to me that we empower our community to keep rising higher--to pursue entrepreneurship, to promote self-sufficiency, and then to reach back and bring others along with you. This the essence of The Village.

Diane Reeves

FOUNDING OFFICER

The Village is all about honoring the rich history of collective giving in the African-American community. We're honoring that history and carrying it forward in a way that will last. History has demonstrated what happens when we band together to use our resources, our influence, and our collective power to impact our community--I love that we're doing that in such a beautiful way.

CHRISTA BROWN SANFORD

FOUNDING OFFICER

I love that I get to do this work with my sisters. Each year I'm blown away by what we've been able to achieve. I love that we get to highlight the many organizations in North Texas that are dedicated to making a difference in our community. We are building something special that will leave a lasting legacy of giving for generations.

FRANCES CUDJOE WATERS

FOUNDING OFFICER

Our legacy as Black women is too precious to forsake. It's what drives us to not just want to write checks, but to dig deep and really try to address some of the systemic disparities in funding for non-profits that support the African-American community.

Shawn Wills

FOUNDING OFFICER

The remarkable thing about The Village Giving Circle is that we have continued to surpass our fundraising goal each year which speaks to the generosity of Black women and the belief that we can make a difference. Yet, the need is so much greater than we're able to meet. My dream for The Village is that we will continue to thrive and be able to meet more needs in the community as we grow.
